LayerPlayer is a new way to look at video playback. Play multiple files (layers) at the same time, even on top of other running video apps. Oh yeah, it’s like magic. Add a lower third, logo, mask, or animation right over the top of other apps. Or use LayerPlayer by itself. Multiple layers let you do all kinds of fun stuf…
Here is a quick look at how LayerPlayer looks. There are 2 videos playing back on my desktop. Turning off the lower layer ("session 4" video) reveals my desktop. If this was playing back on the second monitor (the projector output) then you would see the desktop OR (and this is big) you would see what ever program is running under it (ProPresenter, MediaShout, InstaPlayer etc...)
When we first made this we would make .flv videos to create compressed videos with an alpha channel When Adobe dropped support for .flv it has made creating them more difficult. The best way is to render out a video with alpha, then use an older version of Media Encoder to export a .flv with alpha.
If you can’t make .flv you can still use .pngs in the top layer to create lower 3rd graphics or playback mask made in MaskerAid.
Another fun use is to get an iPhone app that records video and uploads it straight to Dropbox then sync that folder with the lower layer. Then you can walk around shooting short clips and uploading them automatically. If Layerplay is set to “next” then it will reload the folder when it gets to the end and jumps back to the beginning.
